Dual/Concurrent Enrollment Benefits and Process

Peralta’s High School Special Enrollment (dual/concurrent enrollment) provides enrichment opportunities for high school students who can benefit from college level instruction.
Key benefits

Completion of high school graduation requirement of taking a community college course
-
1 semester at a community college = 1 year of high school credit
-
Community college courses are weighted for an extra point on your GPA (5 points instead of 4)
-
Take UC/CSU approved courses that can be transferred to the university you attend post high school, possibly saving your family a significant amount of money.

Ensure courses are transferrable by visiting Assist.org​

Additional Information
-
Classes requested cannot interfere with your core class schedule and should be sceduled after school or online.

Consider taking courses you are interested in and are in fields of your potential major, that way you can get a feel for if it is something you will want to pursue in college.

Students will be responsible for finding and paying for their own textbooks.
-
Students who enroll in 6 or more units will be required to pay the Transit/Health fee of $42.29, giving them access to the Unlimited AC Transit EasyPass for the semester.
Transcripts

Once you complete a course at the community college, please ensure Ms. Celeste has a copy of it so it can be added to your
High School transcript. See THIS VIDEO for instructions on how to access your unofficial transcript. -
When you apply to college, you will need to send an official transcript to the college where you will be enrolling.

Steps for High School Special Enrollment:
​
STEP 1 – Peralta Application Process:

Create an OpenCCC Account
-
Complete the Peralta Admissions Application. Once the application is completed please print or
write down the confirmation number of the application.-
If you have not taken a course in the last year, you will need to complete this process.​

Once you have applied you will receive an email with the subject 'Student Passport Information' within 48 hours. This will contain your 8 digit Student ID number

STEP 2 – High School Special Enrollment Program Form:

Read the class schedule and choose a course you would like to take.

Use RateMyProfessor.com for reviews on the professors you are looking at taking courses from.

Complete a High School Special Enrollment form and send it to Celeste Howard (celeste.howard@alamedaclc.org or celeste.howard@neaclc.org) to obtain her signature and discuss your selection.​You must fill out a separate form for each
semester you wish to attend.-
Print as a PDF to save. If you just save, your information will be lost.

Sign form electronically before sending to Ms. Celeste.

STEP 3 –Student Campus Solutions Page Activation (HOW TO ACCESS CLASSES):

High school students are only allowed to drop classes and view personal information online in their Student Campus Solutions Page.

To view your current courses and course material, access the Canvas platform. A step by step guide can be found HERE on how to log into and use the platform. THIS VIDEO also offers a 'How to' for Canvas.
